Deliang Chen
Xinghua Distinguished Chair Professor, Department of Earth System Science, Tsinghua University
Deliang Chen is a meteorologist by training and a renowned climate researcher. His research spans Earth system science and global environmental change, climate dynamics and modelling, atmospheric circulation, and recent and future regional climate change, with a particular focus on impacts on water resources, ecosystems, the environment, renewable energy, and agriculture. Professor Chen is an elected Fellow of the International Science Council and a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg, the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He is also a Foreign Member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has served on numerous international and national committees and boards, and has advised governmental, intergovernmental, and international non-governmental bodies, including funding agencies. His previous appointments include Director of the Gothenburg Atmospheric Science Centre and Executive Director of the International Council for Science (ICSU). More recently, he has served as Chair of the Nomination Committee of the Stockholm Water Prize, Chair of the Jury for the Volvo Environment Prize, Board Member of the Future Earth Sweden Foundation, Chair of the Earth Science Division of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and member of the International Scientific Advisory Board of the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the External Science Advisory Group of the Bolin Centre. He was also a Coordinating Lead Author in Working Group I of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and serves as an editor for several international scientific journals. He was listed in the Reuters Hot List of the world’s top climate scientists and was awarded H. M. The Kin’s Medal for outstanding contributions to Swedish and international climate research, as well as the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People’s Republic of China.
